Six Plumbing Problems You Must Never Ignore

Plumbing Problems

The thing about a plumbing system is that it is often neglected until something goes wrong. You’d even feel more foolish if you have seen certain signs that there is a plumbing problem yet you chose to ignore it. When any part of your plumbing system shows signs of trouble, you should always pay attention to it. If you choose to ignore it, the plumbing problem could get worse and when it becomes a full-blown plumbing emergency, you’ll be filled with regret knowing you could have done something to prevent a plumbing disaster and you chose not to do anything about it.

What we’re saying here is that plumbing problems, no matter how small, should never be ignored. As far as your plumbing system is concerned, you must never put off for tomorrow what you can do for today. The earlier you address a plumbing problem, the lesser the chance of a plumbing emergency giving you the most stressful time of your home-owning life. Here are some plumbing problems you must never ignore.

1. Slow Drains and Toilets

You know you have a problem with your drains and toilets when water doesn’t flow down as fast as it normally does. A clog may be forming in the pipes, and this clog could only get bigger if you turn a blind eye to it. So use a plunger first, and if the situation doesn’t change, call in the services of a plumbing professional so a completely clogged drain can be prevented.

2. Leaky Faucet

You’ll be wasting a lot of water if you just ignore the constant drip of a leaky faucet. The dripping may not be much to you, but if you let it go on for some time, you will have wasted hundreds of gallons of water by then. If you have a leaky faucet, have it replaced immediately. The same goes for leaking showerheads.

3. Puddles of Water Underneath the Water Heater Tank

Stepping into a shower and getting suddenly soaked by ice-cold water isn’t the only sign there’s something wrong with your water heater. So get to where the water heater tank is, and if you see puddles of water underneath, then it could mean that your tanks have a leak which should be fixed immediately. Failure to act on the leak will only result in the worsening of the water heater leak, not to mention water damage on your property.

4. Mould on the Wall

Mould forms on a wall when there is a lot of moisture in the area. Moulds on a wall, however, could also mean that there is a leaking pipe behind it. Aside from mould growth, leaky pipes behind a wall could also hasten the deterioration of your framing. Should you detect water in places where you shouldn’t, your best bet would be to call for the services of a plumbing professional right away.

5. Your Garbage Disposal Stops Working

A garbage disposal that’s not working properly means it could be jammed, is suffering from leaks, produces weird noises and or just isn’t running at all. All these are problems which you should refer to a plumbing professional only.

6. Sudden Drops in Water Pressure

More often than not, sudden drops in water pressure are caused by a faulty shutoff valve, mineral buildup in showerheads, a hidden water leak, or worse, a damaged or obstructed water line. If you can’t pinpoint what’s causing the drop in water pressure, hire a plumbing professional to fix the problem.
