Let’s assume that you had already contacted professional plumbers in the past and had them clear your clogged drain successfully. If those professional plumbers have already gotten rid of whatever it is that caused the clogged drain, why does your drain keep clogging up? The answer may be closer to home than you think.
Whether we like it or not, you can’t always be around to see everything that gets into your drains. More often than not, a clogged drain is caused by things that should have never made it into the system in the first place. If your drain keeps clogging up, you might want to take a closer look at the other members of your household, who might be a little too careless about what they stuff down your drains.
So far, these are the things that usually cause a clogged drain:
It is but natural for loose hair to come off whenever we take a shower. Ideally, we should be picking these strands of hair up before they gather and slip down the drain. Granted, picking up those loose strands of hair can be an awfully icky proposition, but just letting them into the drain is even ickier. Over time, all the hairs that made it into the drain will become a mass large enough to slow the flow of water through the drain, and eventually block it entirely.
To avoid this, you should instruct everyone in your household to ALWAYS pick those strands of hair up before they cause a clogged drain. To make this easier on everyone, I recommend that you put a hair trap that you can put on top of the drain to make sure no hair strand ever goes through.
Many homeowners are guilty of this, and maybe you are, too. After all, pouring grease down the drain seems like the easiest way of disposing of them. What many of us don’t realize is that grease can only go so far down the drain, where it will eventually rest somewhere down the pipes and solidify over time. When that solid mass of fat becomes big enough, you have a clogged drain that cannot just be solved by using commercially available drain cleaners.
There are many ways of properly disposing of used cooking oils and grease, like putting them into a container and throwing them away or donating it to the city for recycling as a biofuel. Do with it as you like, just don’t pour them down the drain.
Kids are indeed a blessing, but they can be a curse where your toilet—and your drain—is concerned. I don’t remember any of this, but my mom told me I used to enjoy watching my rubber ducks, toy ships and just about any stuff I could get my hands on go around in circles as I flush them down the toilet. Little did I know that I’ve been causing my parents a lot of clogged drain problems at that time. Of course, my parents had to teach me a thing or two about not flushing stuff down the toilet. You can do the same with your kids too if you want to keep your drains from clogging.
In any case, if your drain keeps clogging up despite your best efforts to keep the three things mentioned above out of them, you might have a major clog which only plumbing professionals can deal with. Give us a call, and we at Beez Neez Plumbing will do our best to solve your clogged drain issues for good.
