Unless you’re a qualified electrician or a plumber, never do electrical or plumbing work by yourself. It is essentially illegal to do any electrical work that is more complicated than replacing light bulbs if you are not a licensed electrician. While plumbing doesn’t have the same kind of restriction, working on a plumbing system without the requisite skills and experience could lead to messy and of course, very costly results. For major electrical or plumbing work for your renovation project, hiring licensed electricians and plumbers is the best choice.

5. Structural Changes are Best Left to Builders

Installing beams, tearing down walls and other structural changes during a renovation should only be done by licensed builders. Such structural changes can be quite dangerous when done improperly. It is not unheard of for houses to collapse because of a mistake in carrying out such changes, and that is why only a qualified builder should be allowed to do those changes.

6. Get a Professional to do the Tiling

Doing the tiles may seem simple enough, but there are a lot of things that can go wrong with a tile project, especially when the tiles are for key rooms like the bathroom or the laundry. If you’re not confident enough to tackle such a project on your own, better have a professional tile-setter do the job for you.

7. Floor Sanding must be done by an Expert

Sanding a wooden floor will require the use of specialised sanding machines. While you can rent such a machine for the job, there is no assurance that you can achieve a professional finish unless you’re an expert floor sander yourself. To make sure that your floor gets sanded properly, hire an expert to do it for you.
